molpigs, The Molecular Programming Interest Group, is an international group of researchers interested in topics such as molecular programming, DNA computing, and other aspects of biomolecular nanotechnology. We host regular podcasts, keep you up to date on goings-on in our newsletter, and run a slack for discussion and fostering collaboration.
Hello and welcome back to the molpigs newsletter! Feel free to hang out on the molpigs slack! We are also on twitter!
All the past podcasts and tutorials can be found here. Enjoy!

1. Reading Group “The Early Days of DNA Computing”
We are organizing a second reading group on the topic of “The Early Days of DNA Computing”. We will be reading 7 classic papers curated by Prof. Erik Winfree over 7 weeks and discussing the concepts they developed and their relevance to modern molecular programming. If you are interested, please fill in the form!
2. Job Advertisements!
- William Shih’s laboratory in the Wyss Molecular Robotics Initiative is looking for a postdoc with expertise in biomolecular engineering or science to develop hierarchical self-assembly of hundreds to thousands of distinct DNA origami into addressable microstructures, exploiting the principles of crisscross assembly innovated in their lab. For more information please see here.
- Petr Sulc is looking for postdoc/PhD joining the research team at Technical University of Munich working on designing DNA nanostructures for swarm robotics (using combination of AI, molecular simulations and experiments). The project aspect can be modeling or experiment-based, or combination of both. Contact Petr for more details!
- Nanovery is sponsoring an EPSRC CASE PhD position with Thomas Ouldridge’s group at Imperial College with proposed project title ‘Model-guided engineering of novel DNA-based circuits for nucleic acid signal detection’. This project will be carried out largely in silico with some experimental work depending on the candidates background. Please contact Roma Galloway for more information.
3. Recruiting: molpigs team member!
The molpigs team is looking for new members helping to organize the molpigs events and co-shape the future of molpigs. In you are interested, please get in touch!
4. Recruiting: A podcast audio editor!
Are you skilled with audio editing software, enjoy the molpigs podcast, and want to help make it even better? Then please get in touch!
