molpigs, The Molecular Programming Interest Group, is an international group of researchers interested in topics such as molecular programming, DNA computing, and other aspects of biomolecular nanotechnology. We host regular podcasts, keep you up to date on goings-on in our newsletter, and run a slack for discussion and fostering collaboration.
Hello and welcome back to the molpigs newsletter! Feel free to hang out on the molpigs slack! We are also on twitter!
All the past podcasts and tutorials can be found here. Enjoy!

1. Meet the Molecular Programmer: #5 Greg Tikomirhov
The “Meet the Molecular Programmer” podcast series focuses on casually chatting with professors about their academic and life experiences. We believe that their research can be easily accessed, but the experience behind and wisdom obtained during the path is more valuable and worth sharing to younger students. For previous episodes in our “Meet the Molecular Programmer” podcast series, please click here.
In this episode we talked with Greg Tikomirhov about his experience transitioning from a postdoc to a professor and starting a new molecular programming lab. We learned about his journey from wanting to build large, beautiful molecules to his work at the interface between molecular design and material science and his visions for “a new nanotechnology”.
Greg Tikhomirov is an assistant professor in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, with a background in chemistry, bioengineering, medicine, and nanotechnology. He has a longstanding dream to engineer life-like artificial systems, motivated by the realization that incomprehensible natural complexity arises from comprehensible fundamental laws. Ti Lab at Berkeley is pursuing the design and fabrication of devices with atomic precision by combining the strengths of rational top-down engineering and bottom-up biomolecular assembly. A key goal is to adopt the powerful but still proof-of-concept self-assembly approaches of DNA nanotechnology to engineer new, useful devices.
2. Looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming DNA28!
Some of us from the molpigs team will be attending the coming DNA28 conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. We are looking forward to meeting you at the conference in person!
